What Is a Dermal Filler?
The majority of fillers used in our office, are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a hydrating solution responsible for keeping the skin full and plump. When injected into the face, the filler restores lost volume in order to reduce lines and smooth the skin.
Dermal fillers are nonsurgical and minimally invasive. There is little to no downtime but you may experience some bruising and swelling. This is normal and usually subsides in a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes. Allergic reactions to dermal fillers are rare and the complication rate for fillers is low.
Where can I use fillers?
We use fillers to treat many areas, including:
- Facial lines and folds, including smile lines and the marionette/puppet lines on your lower face
- Back of hands
- Scarring from acne, surgery or other causes
- Indentations from injury or surgery.
- Dark circles
How do I decide which filler to get?
Each filler has specific features suited to certain facial applications. Some fillers are placed deep in the tissue while others work directly underneath the skin surface. Some fillers can be placed in the lips or near the eyes and some can’t. When you visit us for an in-person consultation, we will recommend specific treatments that suit your needs.
Will I bruise?
You might. You should avoid medications and products that increase the risk of bruising, including:
- Motrin, Aleve other NSAID medications
- Vitamin E
- Fish oil
Don’t get fillers 3 weeks before an important social event. Pineapple juice and arnica montana may decrease the duration of bruising.
Will I have a lot of swelling?
This will depend on the type of product, the amount of product used and your body. Many people experience some swelling for the first 2 or 3 days.
Are dermal fillers painful?
Most people tolerate fillers very well. Many fillers include lidocaine, which numbs the injection area. We can also use numbing cream and ice to make you more comfortable. Let us know if you have a needle phobia or are highly anxious so we can help.
Do dermal fillers replace a facelift?
No. Dermal fillers do not lift or tighten tissues like a facelift. Fillers do work very well for:
- People with a few lines and wrinkles
- Those not ready for a facelift
- People who’ve had a facelift and want to maintain an improved appearance for as long as possible
What if I change my mind after having the dermal fillers?
One of the nice things about the HA group of fillers is that we can undo them using another type of injectable.
What are PRF Injections and PRF Gel?
Our EZPRF injections are Platelet-Rich Fibrin collected from your own blood sample that is 100% natural and free of additives.
We do this by performing a simple blood draw like you would receive from your doctors office, and then the sample is placed in our special state of the art centrifuge to spin out all of the powerful regeneration cells that can then be injected in areas to rejuvenate the skin, blood supply, and collagen production for the area.
This sample can be utilized as a topical serum, injectable serum form or even a volumizing gel form. Depending on your goals and the area we are rejuvenating will depend on the form of PRF we use.
Is PRF rejuvenation safe?
Yes! Since PRF derives from a sample of your own blood, there is virtually no risk of disease or severe allergic reactions. However, if you are someone who is taking immunosuppressants or chronic steroid use, PRF may not work as well and bring optimal results.
Are PRF treatments painful?
PRF is a quick and painless treatment. It is performed in the office with no or minimal downtime. The treatment requires a small amount of blood which is drawn from you. Then, the platelets are separated from the blood using our PRF skin improving protocol. Once the PRF is prepared, injections or other topical treatment are performed with minimal discomfort with the help of topical or injectable lidocaine.
How much improvement can I expect from PRF and how long will it last?
Since PRF comes from your own body the results vary for each person. Our patients have noticeable improvement in the tone, texture, and overall quality of their skin. Results begin to show 4-6 weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. Three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to achieve the best outcome and then every 12-18 months from that point forward for maintenance.
